  6. Note: This stuff is still "beta" - let me know if you find
  7. any bugs.

  9. There are now two versions of "The Grouch":
  10.   "The Grouch" - a System Extension
  11.   "Stand-Alone Grouch" - an Application
  12.  
  13. The Extension version of "The Grouch" plays an animation
  14. every time "Empty Trash" is selected from the Finder's
  15. "Special" menu.  This version must be placed into your System
  16. Folder (or Extensions folder under System 7) and you must
  17. "Restart" your system for it to work.
  18.  
  19. The Application version was created after several parents
  20. informed me that their children liked "The Grouch" so much
  21. they threw out all of the files on their hard disks.  This version
  22. is child-proof as far as I can tell since it is completely self-
  23. contained.  It does not modify the Finder and draws the animation
  24. in a window instead of on the desktop.  It does not require the
  25. Extension to be present.

  27. "The Grouch" requires either System 6.0x or System 7 on a 
  28. MacPlus or later.  If the animation doesn't play, chances are that 
  29. memory is too tight to load in the pictures.  Let me know if you find 
  30. any incompatibilities.

  32. Notes:
  33.      The Extension version won't work if you modify your trash can icon
  34. (the animation would look silly anyway).
  35.      The Stand-Alone version may have problems plotting color icons
  36. on a color monitor if the main monitor is black & white and you're
  37. running certain versions of System 6.

  39. Improvements over version 2.0:
  40. The Application version is completely new
  41. Works with System 7 Final
  42. Animation has been improved a bit (color trash, better alignment)
  43. The startup icon automatically wraps to the next row if you have
  44.      lots of Extensions
  45. The Extension can be renamed without rebooting (System 7 only)
  46. The Extension code has be rewritten to be better/stronger/faster.
